2021/22 saw Bordeaux finish bottom of the league. However, they were initially allowed to stay in the top flight after their appeal against relegation to Ligue 2 was accepted.
The club ran into further financial issues and, by mid-June, the decision had been overturned. They were relegated to the Championnat National, the third tier of French football, by the FFF Executive Committee.
