2022/23 saw Kaizer Chiefs secure a second consecutive fifth-placed finish in the South African Premiership, this can be mainly attributed to the record number of defeats (12) in the campaign. A disappointing season was capped off with a penalty shoot-out elimination in the Round of 32 by lower-league opposition in the domestic cup.
